Forbidden Baggage

For security reasons, certain objects are forbidden in hand baggage:

  • Guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles: devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile;

  • Neutralizing devices: devices designed specifically to stun or immobilize;

  • Sharp objects: objects, due to its sharp tip or its sharp edges can be used to cause serious injuries;

  • Working tools: tools that can be used to cause serious injury or threaten the safety of the aircraft;

  • Blunt instruments: objects that can cause serious injury if used to harm someone physically;

  • Explosives and incendiary substances and devices: materials and explosives or incendiary devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or threaten the safety of the aircraft;

  • Liquids, Aerosols and Gels

Note: Carrying liquids on board is authorized only in containers with a capacity up to 100 milliliters and not more than one liter in total per passenger. These must be packed in a transparent plastic bag with sealing and easy opening, with dimensions of 19 cm x 20 cm (7 in x 8 in).

Electronic cigarettes

These are electronic devices that simulate real cigarettes and smoking.

For safety reasons, they cannot be carried in the hold as there is a risk of overheating and fire. They can be carried as hand baggage, but cannot be used on board TAP aircraft.

Portable Electronic Devices (PEDS)

It’s not permitted the use of the following categories of PED’s during all flight:

  • E-cigarettes;
  • Walkie-talkies / hand held radios;
  • Remote controlled toys;
  • All wireless computer equipment;
  • Portable stereo sets, including pocket radios (AM/FM);
  • Portable TV receivers;
  • Bluetooth devices;
  • Devices transmitting RF intentionally and other similar type of equipment.

Small vehicles powered by lithium batteries

In all flights operated by TAP, small vehicles powered by lithium batteries are not allowed neither in checked nor in carry-on baggage due to the potential fire danger from the lithium batteries that power them. They are only acceptable as cargo.


Examples: airwheel, solowheel, hoverboard, mini-segway and balance wheel.

Important Note:

In flights to and from the United States you may be subject to another inspection of your hand baggage and a detailed inspection of your shoes and all electrical and electronic devices you are carrying with you.

For this destination, it is completely forbidden to carry cigarette lighters in both hand baggage and checked baggage.
