TAP renews cooperation with Lufthansa Systems

2010-01-26

TAP will continue to optimise operations on its routes with the Lido flight plan system from Lufthansa Systems, having recently renewed its contract in advance, for another five years to mid-2017. The agreement also includes the implementation and use of new Lido applications, such as TFR (Traffic Flow Restrictions) management and IFM (Inflight Monitor).

“Our objective is to stand out for our service quality and operational efficiency. The Lido system is a powerful, state-of-the-art tool that completely fulfils our requirements. It offers innovative functionalities to optimise our flight operations processes and allows us to save on fuel and costs,” stated António Aguiar, Director of Technical Support, Flight Operations, at TAP.

TAP has been using Lido/Flight since September 2006. This industry-leading flight plan solution provides flight operations officials with a range of optimisation options, covering flight time, fuel consumption and the total cost of each flight.

Using a customised database, the integrated solution uses a series of parameters to calculate the ideal route for each flight, allowing for savings of up to 5% on fuel. TAP will also benefit from the innovations now added to Lido.  While TFR economises on fuel, taking into account the highly complex issue of temporary restrictions on flight paths, the IFM module, on the other hand, automatically monitors all the flights which have already been calculated, but not yet made. The system reports all the updates on air space restrictions, airport information and weather, automatically proposing alterative routes if required.

“I am very pleased that TAP has decided to keep relying on our specialisation. The continuation of our long-standing cooperation plays testament to the value of Lido/Flight and strengthens its market leadership position. Around 40% of all flights operated by European airlines are planned using our flight plan solution,” commented Stefan Auerbach, SVP Sales EMEA at Lufthansa Systems.

Lido/Flight is part of the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC) platform from Lufthansa Systems. The integrated components of the IOCC platform cover all aspects of flight operations, including schedule management, operations control, crew management, flight planning and weight & balance. The IOCC platform allows airlines to optimise complex flight operations processes, resulting in considerable cost savings and increased passenger satisfaction.
