Belo Horizonte

The capital city of the state of Minas Gerais is one of the most interesting cities in Brazil. Belo Horizonte has grown tremendously in recent years, but always in a very orderly and sustained way. Fact that has earned it a nomination in 2008, of the metropolis with the best quality of life in Latin America and by the UN nominated the 45th among the top one hundred best cities of the world.

The people of Belo Horizonte like to call it by the diminutive "BH", even writing it in a simplified manner, ("Beagá” how you spell it). It is a city with nearly 2.4 million inhabitants - the fifth most populous in Brazil - and a multiracial community. This is because the settlement was made by immigrants who came either from within the interior mining areas, and other regions in other states and also from Europe. The people of Minas Gerais are known to be very welcoming. It's easy to start a conversation here and there are plenty of places to do so. Did you know that city of "beagá" is known for being the city with more bars in Brazil? It may be myth, but the population takes advantage of this, and in the absence of the ocean, they have created a slogan: “Se não tem mar, vamos pró bar" - If we don’t have the sea, let’s go to the bar ".It was a city designed from scratch, when in the late nineteenth century, the Government decided to create a new capital for the state. The new capital was born from Arão dos Reis, author of the project. Belo Horizonte was built in the foothills of the “Serra do Curral”. The mountain slopes that we see are what protect Belo Horizonte: A clean and organized city, with a planned architecture of wide avenues and filled with trees. It grew into a cultural community, a city that is diversified, loves culture and entertainment.
