Matisse, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Rodin… All of them have lived in Nice, which makes the city even more irresistible. The numerous museums which shows these artists’ work are surrounded by several cultural centres where you can see recitals, ballet and opera, among other shows not to be missed.

In the city where Henri Matisse lived, there are plenty of cultural references. Start with a visit to Cimiez Museum where you can find some works by the painter. But museums spread around town still maintain spaces dedicated to Pablo Picasso. Another important cultural focus is the Musée des Arts Départemental Asiatiques, on the top of Colline du Chateau. Do not miss it. But it wasn’t just Matisse who elected this town as one of his favourites. Also, the American F. Scott Fitzgerald and the sculptor Auguste Rodin lived in Nice. The Russian Marc Chagall also surrendered to the beauty of the city and his works can be found at the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporaine, where you can also find works by Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Finish the day with a small snack in one of the restaurants on the small boats and feel like a cultural element of Nice. Save one of the nights to attend a special show. Go to the Nice Opera, a building constructed in the 19th century and attend concerts, recitals and ballet, among other events. In the area you can also find several mansions belonging to celebrities such as the Belgian poet Maurice Maeterlinck, with an area of 3.5 hectares and a view towards the sea.
