Nightlife

If in winter most of the fun is held indoors, as soon as the weather starts warming up the party goes to the city’s streets. But here there is liveliness every day at whatever time.

To get in the city’s spirit and adapt to the local habits, one must pass some time at the cafés of Ban Jelacic Square or drink a beer at K Pivovari (www.kpivovari.com), the eldest brewery in town. This is also a good place to dine and taste dishes like “turkey with mlinci” or “kulen”. This can take place in restaurants like Baltazar (www.restoran-baltazar.hr) or Kaptolska Klet (www.kaptolska-klept.hr). The fish and Mediterranean gastronomy are equally a part of Croatian tradition and the offer is quite diversified in terms of restaurants. Most of them have English and German menus and it is polite do leave a tip, which should be around 10% to 15% of the amount spent. After dinner you can choose between jazz, samba or tango. Bachus Jazz bar (www.bachusjazzbar.net) and the BP (www.bpclub.hr) are ideal for listening to music, but if you want to have the typical pub feeling, you can go by Oliver Twist or by Dublin Pub. To dance the night away, the city center and the area near Juran Lake are the liveliest places, with a lot of choices among nightclubs and discos. The city also has more than a dozen casinos for those willing to try their luck.
