Transportation of fragile or bulky baggage in the cabin or in the hold.
Special cabin baggage consists of items that passengers carry in the cabin but are not included in the free hand baggage allowance and therefore require extra seats to be reserved.
Cabin baggage may be bulky or fragile items such as works of art, musical instruments, electronic equipment, etc.
It will be accepted on the following conditions:
- The pressure or weight of the cabin baggage on the seat must not exceed 75 kg (165 lbs).
- It may be necessary to reserve more than one seat for heavier or larger items. The airline will establish the number of seats.
TAP will accept the transport on hold of musical instruments weighing up to 45 kg / 99 lbs (or 32 kg / 70 lbs if travelling to/from/via USA, Hungary, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands) and with dimensions up to 190 cm x 75 cm x 65 cm (75 in x 30 in x 26 in), provided that TAP has been notified at the time of booking, or at least 24 hours before flight.
When transported as checked baggage, musical items must be properly packaged in a rigid and/or hard shell container specifically designed for shipping such items.
The passenger is responsible for properly prepare a musical instrument for travel.
Musical instruments can be included in the free baggage as long as they are within the permitted weight limits and dimensions.
