Food and Wine
“I really like rojões (traditional Portuguese pork dish). I remember having them in a good restaurant in Amarante before going up the Marão on a cold night last Winter. A good Douro red would be Post Scriptum 2007, which is a wine that has great structure and complexity, and which marries beautifully with the rojões. Then you need a friend to drive you home…”
“I prefer being in the Douro, but if I have to choose somewhere else, it would be Quinta da Foja, the farm that belongs to my Portuguese grandmother, Maria Ferreira Pinto Basto, close to Montemor-o-Velho, in the Mondego valley. It’s where I learnt to ride a horse. The farm produces rice and its fields are beautiful.”
