Ponta Delgada

The capital of the Azores is one of the most beautiful locations that can be found in the Atlantic Ocean. Situated in the largest island of the Azores, São Miguel, Ponta Delgada is sometimes painted in white with its whitewashed building facades, other times in black, due to the use of typical basaltic volcanic rocks in the constructions.

With a population of around 65,000 inhabitants, the island can experience each day, the four seasons, for in the morning it may have mild temperatures and it is not surprising that suddenly, a sunny day can become a rainy day, or that in the tip of the island it is hot and in the other it is cold. The investment in the development of the capital is notorious, but traces of antiquity are an interesting feature of the city, where you can find well cared São Miguel baroque buildings - churches, museums and other public buildings - or checkered pavement impeccably cared for. This is also present outside the historic center. The island of Sao Miguel is only 64.7 kilometers long and up to 15 wide. But in such little space, we find many green areas that leave visitors amazed. To the west, the famous Sete Cidades Lagoon, to the east, the Furnas Valley, where they cook under the ground, the famous “cozido” - stew.
