Possible Industrial Action Looms at TAP Portugal

Portugal’s national carrier TAP Portugal could be hit by operational disruptions as the union representing the airline’s cabin crew called for industrial action. The one day strike is scheduled on Saturday, 20th December 2008 should current negotiations fail.

This would result in severe delays and/or flight cancellations to the airline’s operations across the system.

TAP Portugal, in its efforts to minimize inconvenience to travellers during this period strongly advises its customers to consider other travel dates. Customers with existing and ticketed bookings on TAP for the 20th of December wishing to change may do so free of charge. Date changes are subject to availability on passenger’s chosen flights. Alternately, passengers wishing to cancel their travel plans can opt for a full refund by contacting either their travel service provider or TAP.

TAP senior management is doing all possible to avoid work stoppage by working with the trade union authorities. They are optimistic that the issues between the two parties can be resolved without the need for a strike.
