The first edition of the Victoria Golf Tournament was held on Saturday October 18 at the Penha Longa course classified among the top 30 in Europe. This initiative is in response to numerous requests from frequent flyers that have come to express an interest in TAP and its partners associating themselves with the creation of a golfing event.
With almost three decades of experience in activities associated with golf – via the well-known TAP Open Tournament – the 2008 Victoria Tournament is yet another example of TAP investment in this sport and is the first initiative by the company’s Fidelity Program in this area.
“With this initiative TAP wanted to get even closer to Victoria Program participants – in a more informal, enjoyable and relaxed setting – but also associate itself with the business partners present here, namely Avis and VICTORIA INSURANCE. This event also helps to strengthen synergies between brands, TAP customers and an activity that in Portugal can already be seen as fundamental to the tourist development of the country.” – said Michael Conolly, TAP administrator at the opening of the trophy awards’ ceremony.
More than 100 people took part in the tournament that was disputed in two-player Victoria Program member teams as a Fourball Betterball competition. The expressive number of players confirms the continuity of this TAP initiative that according to Tiago Phillimore – responsible for TAP’s Marketing Strategy – should be considered in the future –”TAP will increasingly invest in this type of initiative, not just because of the high level of uptake and customer participation in this tournament but above all because we want to collaborate with the consolidation of our country as an international class golfing destination and this way increase the level of association of this sport with the TAP brand (TAP – Your Golf Airline)”
The Beloura Travel & Golf travel agents specializing in the golf market was a key player in organizing the event because of its important role in the growth of this tourist activity on a domestic and international level, bringing many TAP customers that play the game to Portugal and flying them abroad.
