Museum

TAP Museum initially opened its doors in 1978, as a result of an idea from the Administration Board. However, the museum was officially inaugurated on March 14th, 1985, during TAP's 40th anniversary celebrations.

In November 1997, during Expo 98 in Lisbon, the museum was given a permanent staff. Its two goals were to preserve TAP's historical assets, while also making them available to the world.

In addition to participating in international events, the Museum has opened two exhibits within TAP building offices in Lisbon:

  • one is located in the Comandante Manuel Maria Rocha Room, near Building 19, containing exhibits, such as pieces of the Caravelle and Superconstellation airplanes. Documents and uniforms serve as witnesses of a long journey of aviation in general, and TAP life in particular. There is also a little shop that sells TAP merchandising.
  • the other one is in Building 28 main entrance, where pieces related with how pilots and cabin crew work are available.

Also located in Building 28, are historical files and documents. These may be viewed by appointment.

Included are navigation diaries, pictures, technical manuals or advertising campaigns.

Additional historical documents can be found in the Museum Filing Department located on the 5th floor.
