TAP wins Airbus award for operational excellence

2009-05-26

TAP Portugal has been awarded the A320 Family Operational Excellence Award by Airbus in recognition of the exceptional use of its fleet of this type of aircraft. The award was made by Airbus during the course of the “A320 Family Technical Symposium” which brought together A320 family aircraft operators in Paris from all over the world.

Selection criteria for handing out these awards is based on operational information collected over two years of activity and takes into account the number of aircraft in the fleet that are operational, their average daily use, technical reliability and the number and duration of delays in flights due to technical reasons.

"While the entire A320 family fleet continues to register impressive operating results, these awards acknowledge the exceptional technical performance of each of the operators", said Charles Champion, Airbus Executive Vice President for Customer Services at the event. “TAP has created extremely efficient operation with its Airbus aircraft, exceptionally high use and excellent dispatch reliability”.

The A320 family (A328, A319, A320 and A321) is recognized worldwide as a reference aircraft in the narrow body segment (single-corridor aircraft). More than 6,300 aircraft have already been sold and more than 3,700 already delivered to around 280 customers and operators the world over.

This award along with the other four already given by Airbus to TAP, for best operating performance on a world level for the A340 fleet in 1996, the A319 in 2000 and the A310 in 2003 and 2005, reflects recognition of the exceptional level achieved by the Company in optimizing fleet use and maintenance of its operational reliability.
