Shopping

With an incredible offer of brand stores, Madrid is a temptation for those who are in fashion at all times. Be the Gran Via, the fancy neighborhood of Salamanca, the busy street market of El Rastro, or the multiple stores of El Corte Ingles in the city, there is no shortage of offer and temptation lurks around every corner.

If you are here on a end-to-week, do not get stuck by laziness and get up early on Sunday to discover the most famous street market in Madrid, El Rastro. Take the metro to the station of La Latina and begin the tour in the Plaza de Cascorro. The market runs on Sundays from 8am until 2pm. For those who prefer to walk from shop to shop, we have two suggestions: Gran Via or the Barrio de Salamanca. First the centenary Gran Via where, from the Plaza de España to Plaza de las Cibeles, the "tiendas” (shops) multiply and visitors walk in a continuous spin. If you like alternative things turn to Calle Fuencarral and find a closed street to traffic with an interesting offer too. The quietest shopping are in the fancy neighborhood of Salamanca, where you’ll see the finest and most posh of Madrid. The calles de Goya and Serrano are the most known, but do not hesitate to venture into smaller streets, as Hermosilla Jorge Juan, where surely you’ll discover many novelties. For the more stuffed wallets a trip to the "golden mile" (the block with the world's most expensive brand and tailor shops) in Calle de Jose Ortega y Gasset.
