Checked Luggage

Is baggage of which TAP takes custody and issues a baggage identification tag for each piece.

This baggage is carried in the hold and for safety reasons, in the same aircraft the passenger is travelling on.

Every checked baggage must be properly packed to ensure safe carriage, and show the passenger's name and address.This baggage is carried in the hold and for safety reasons, in the same aircraft the passenger is travelling on.

Checked baggage must not contain the following items: 

  • fragile items
  • valuable items
  • perishable items
  • dangerous goods

The following items are considered dangerous:

  • Explosives, including detonators, fuses, grenades, mines and explosives;
  • Gases, including propane and butane;
  • Flammable liquids, including gasoline and methanol;
  • Flammable solids and reactive substances, including magnesium, fire lighters, fireworks and flares;
  • Oxidisers and organic peroxides, including bleach and car body repair kits;
  • Toxic or infectious substances, including rat poison and infected blood;
  • Radioactive material, including medicinal or commercial isotopes;
  • Corrosives, including mercury and vehicle batteries;
  • Vehicle fuel system components which have contained fuel.

Free baggage allowance may be subject to weight or piece concept:
