Nature

Being on vacation in a city is not a reason to give up on physical exercise. Especially in a place like Rio de Janeiro which is full of beaches and boulevards that invite you for a walk. On some sidewalks you may even find familiar faces, as in Urca, Chico Buarque's favourite place.

Locals know that Chico Buarque is a fan of walking. Near the Morro da Urca, at Praia Vermelha, there is a path, two and a half kilometres long (round trip) where it is quite possible to find him. A few metres from bondinho station at Pão de Açúcar, there is a paved road, full of trees and overlooking the sea, which the locals know as the bem-te-vi path (a popular bird in Brazil that sings early in the mornings). The Pista Cláudio Coutinho goes all the way along the coast of the Pão de Açucar Hill and has access to climb the Morro da Urca. The name is a tribute to the coach of Brazil's football team, who ranked third in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. Operating between six am and six pm, is a safe path concentrated in a military area. Also get to know the charming district of Urca and taste the Pastel de Camarão (shrimp in pastry) at the Bar da Urca (which many locals say is the best in Rio).
