Disability Assistance Request

Medical Cases - MEDA

All passengers requiring special assistance on board are considered Medical Cases (MEDA).

As a rule, a medical case exists if a passenger has a medical condition resulting in dependence on others or requiring personalised assistance.

If you have a specific clinical situation, a serious or debilitating illness, you must ask your doctor to fill in the Medical Information for Fitness to Travel - MEDIF (Part 2) (PDF, 0.1MB, EN) / Ficha de Informação Médica - MEDIF (Parte 2) (PDF, 0,84MB, PT). Send TAP a print-out of the MEDIF completed by your doctor in order to be analyzed by the airline's medical services.

Send MEDIF to the to the fax number (+351) 21 841 5880 or to the email (this e-mail serves MEDIF purposes only, other issues will be ignored).

More information about medical cases and health conditions

The cabin environment on commercial aircraft corresponds to an atmospheric pressure lower than that of the Earth's surface, which does not significantly affect the majority of passengers.

This may have a relevant impact in the case of passengers with certain health conditions. Therefore, for a passenger who has recently suffered a lower limb orthopedic injury (e.g. fracture) with need for immobilization with plaster cast, prior medical authorization for boarding should be sought to the airline company, through filling in the form MEDIF (PDF, 0.1MB, EN) by the doctor who attended.

To prevent circulatory problems and discomfort, the plaster cast should be opened in case you are travelling up to 48 hours after its placement. It may also be necessary to use a wheelchair for movement until the aircraft and legroom during the flight. For this reason, you will need to book extra seats.
