Bissau

Tropical landscapes can be misleading. Here, we don't find the luxuries of other paradise-like destinations. However, there is the constant challenge of discovering new things. For the ones who enjoy escaping the most popular routes, Bissau is the ideal place to feel Africa in all its splendour.

The capital of Guinea-Bissau is still to find in tourism a source of wealth. Maybe for that reason, there is a peculiar charm to it for the ones who prefer cities where the presence of visitors has not altered the pace of day-to-day life. Bissau's climate is marked mainly by two seasons. The rain season, between June and October, is the warmest. The dry season is between November and May. The average annual temperature is around 28 degrees, which high humidity levels. There is no railway line and although buses are frequently full, they are a safest option, compared to "Toca-tocas", vans which operate as informal collective taxis. To travel in Guinea-Bissau, it is necessary to have a visa, which can be obtain in the respective embassy. Before departing, it is important that you see a doctor to obtain information on vaccination and other health care tips. Once in the town, it is not recommended that you drink any water that is not bottled. Also, you need to take a few precautions, such as respecting the customs in the areas where the majority of the population is Muslim and the beliefs of isolated peoples, which do not allow, for instance, that certain island be visited.
