Sharp rise in the number of passengers transported in January and February

2008-03-26

In February TAP registered an increase in excess of 37 percent in the number of passengers departing or arriving at Porto Airport and a 20 percent increase in Lisbon.

The number of passengers transported by the company in Porto in February rose to 109 thousand and in terms of overall total for the first two months of the year TAP was responsible for the transit of more than 232 thousand passengers through the airport, an increase of 34 percent compared with the same period in 2007.

This growth, higher than that registered by the airport of Porto itself during the same two-month period and around 20 percent, corresponds to the TAP strategy of creating a new hub in the north of the Country with the advent of increased operations and the launch of new destinations and flights from Porto.

In Lisbon, TAP transported more than one million passengers in the first two months of the year, reflecting an increase of 20 percent when compared with the same period of the previous year.

Here too the increase in the number of passengers transported by the airline company is much higher than that registered in the same period by the capital's airport which reported an 8.7 percent rise in passengers departing or arriving in Lisbon.
