With immediate effect, TAP Portugal customers travelling from Gatwick will be able to carry more than one bag through security for cabin baggage purposes. The UK government restriction limiting customers to one item of cabin baggage was lifted at all other BAA airports (including Heathrow) in January 2008, as well as the Gatwick Airport transfer security areas in February 2008.
The Department for Transport (DfT) originally granted Gatwick airport an extension of the restriction to one bag, to allow the new x-ray and archway technology to be installed in central search areas. The necessary work has now been completed. Gatwick Airport authorities will continue to apply the DfT’s cabin baggage restrictions relating to the size of any item (maximum 56cm tall, 45cm wide and 25cm deep). This will also be adopted by TAP Portugal.
Please note that in line with TAP´s overall policy on cabin baggage, the 2nd item must be a laptop, briefcase or handbag.
Customers making contact with the BAA will be advised to check with their airline before travelling to the airport, where signage is being revised to reflect these changes.
