TAP & Portuguese tourism confederation debate national tourism

2008-07-22

The Portuguese Tourism Confederation (CTP) and the TAP Board of Directors met yesterday at the headquarters of the national airline company to jointly debate the evolution of the national tourist sector as well as discuss the major future challenges and strategies outlined to face these.

At the meeting Fernando Pinto Company CEO and administrators Luiz Mor and Luis Ribeiro Vaz were present. CTP was also represented by its Chairman Jose Carlos Pinto Coelho and Vice-Chairman Francisco Calheiros, Sergio da Palma Brito, CTP General Director, Henrique Veiga (Portuguese Hotel Association) and Francisco Sa Nogueira (APAVT).

At the close of the meeting the CTP Chairman emphasized the importance of this meeting that "enabled TAP and CTP strategies to be discussed thus enabling useful information to be fine-tuned and exchanged between both parties and also to identify points of convergence that can help us achieve better results in the future."

For Fernando Pinto it is fundamental that “there is a permanent constructive dialogue between TAP and the major entity responsible for national tourism. Only this way can we can recognize the needs of each party to be able to adapt to an increasingly competitive market that is going through a very difficult period and one in which it is important to maintain the high level of quality that characterizes us."

Those responsible took the opportunity to debate some of the major challenges for the future and to analyze forecasts for the next two years with the increase in fuel prices and the reduced purchasing power of some of the major traffic issuers, and also agreeing to make these meetings a regular occurrence.

During the meeting TAP provided information on its activities emphasizing its contribution to national tourism and efforts made to improve its operations at Lisbon Airport. On this topic, Jose Carlos Pinto Coelho congratulated “TAP for being on the right path, having witnessed major improvements in recent times. A company like TAP with a quality service is without doubt a major contribution to tourist development in Portugal.”
