TAP has already flown 12 cargo flights to Luanda departing from Lisbon and Porto during the June/October 2008 period, transporting 1,110 tons of cargo as a whole on these flights.
As TAP has no exclusive cargo aircraft of its own it selected Atlas Air and Southern Air as the operators on these flights. These companies have exclusive Boeing 747 fleets in their cargo version, the appropriate aircraft for these types of operations on a large scale. TAAG and Groundforce have been fundamental partners in the running of these flights.
Cargo flights to Luanda have contributed to TAP Cargo increasing its accumulated revenue during the January/September 2008 period by 19 percent when compared with the same period of last year. This increase in revenue registered during a period of economic crisis that is naturally reflected in the amount of cargo transported, results overall from increases in average tariffs.
