Firearms and Ammunition

Important notice: The passenger should complete check-in 1 hour before normal time.

The transport of arms and ammunition is of the full responsibility of the passenger and only permitted under the following conditions:

  • In cabin the possession of arms or ammunition is not allowed
  • At check-in the same should be turned in empty and unassembled and conveniently packaged
  • Having all documentation in order related to the weapon (Usage and weapon license handbook)
  • Small weapons can be transported in registered luggage suitcases as long as they are declared at check-in
  • Weapons and ammunition that contain explosive projectiles cannot be transported as registered luggage
  • Ammunition cannot be transported in quantities which exceed 5Kg/11Ibs per passenger and per piece
  • The weight of the weapons and ammunition will be included in the luggage price of the passenger, any excess of luggage will be considered excess of normal luggage
  • They should be small calibre ammunition and should not contain explosive projectiles
  • Ammunition should be packaged in packaging with a sufficiently strong exterior Wood, metal or fibre, protected against knocks and restricted from coming out of the container.
United Kingdom:
  • The transport of fire arms is not allowed
Italy:
  • A temporary export certificate is necessary issued by the local residence police.

Hang-Gliders

Are considered large sized sporting items and transport of the same is allowed in the hold area under the following conditions:

  • A fixed fee will always be charged as long as the trip is carried out specifically on TAP flights (excluding code share flights)
Exceptions:
  • TAP Cape Verde Intercontinental Flights:
  • For code share flights operated by TAP or TACV from Cape Verde to Portugal the fixed fee is US$100.

Bicycles

It must be properly packaged in an appropriate box, and it is always advisable that the bicycle handle bar be rotated at a 90 degree angle and that it be removed, as well as the pedals taken off.

Service charges:

  • Domestic and European Flights: 50 EUR per one way
  • Intercontinental Flights: 100 EUR per one way

Exception:
- Trips originated in Brazil will benefit from the transportation of a not motorized bicycle, duly packed with pedals removed and the handlebar rotated at 90 degrees, considered as part of the free baggage allowance, within 158cm (62 inches).


Surf / Bodyboard / Skimboard / Kitesurf and Wakeboard Boards

The boards transportation will only be accepted if the passenger has signed a limited release baggage tag (Waiver of Indemnity - download the PDF document on the right), then ½ flat rate will be collected, per each bag:

  • Boards that do not exceed 150cm / 59in. in length are considered small-sized sporting items and transport of the same is free of charge if within free baggage allowance
  • Boards that exceed 150cm / 59in in length are considered large-sized sporting items and transport of the same is allowed in the hold area under the following conditions:
    - Domestic & European Flights: 37.50 EUR (½ flat rate) per one way and per each bag until 10kg
    - Intercontinental Flights: 75 EUR (½ flat rate) per one way and per each bag until 10kg
NOTE:
  • Boards must be duly carried in an appropriate bag.

  • One service charge per bag until 10 kg

Flat rates:
  • Domestic & European Flights: 75 EUR
  • Intercontinental Flights: 150 EUR

Windsurf Boards

Are considered over-sized sporting items and transport of the same is allowed in the hold area under the following conditions: A fixed fee will always be charged as long as the trip is carried out specifically on TAP flights (excluding code share flights)

Exceptions:

  • TAP Cape Verde Intercontinental Flights:
  • For code share flights operated by TAP or TACV from Cape Verde to Portugal the fixed fee is US$100.

Prices to be charged for Windsurf Boards:

  • Domestic & European Flights: 100 EUR per one way
  • Intercontinental Flights: 170 per one way

Golf Bags

TAP accepts the transport of golf bags* on its flights (excluding code share) under the following conditions:

  • 1 set per passenger can be carried free of charge up to 15kg.
  • Any weight exceeding 15kg will be charged at normal excess baggage charges.
  • To carry more than one set of golf equipment normal excess baggage charges will apply.

* subject to availability and capacity of the aircraft that operates the flight

Skis and Snowboards

Until 59in are covered by free baggage allowance; exceeding 59in they will be charged like this:

  • Domestic & European Flights: 75 EUR per one way
  • Intercontinental Flights: 150 EUR per one way

Scuba

One set of scuba diving equipment is defined as:

One empty scuba tank, one scuba regulator, one tank harness, one tank pressure gauge, one mask, two fins, one snorkel, one knife, one spear gun and one safety vest.

Regardless of the actual dimensions scuba diving equipment will be considered as a single piece as a single piece of baggage with outside linear dims of 62 inches.

It is accepted as checked baggage only.

Prices charged for scuba equipment are:

- If under 15kg/33Ibs and 140cm/55in:

Domestic & European flights: 30 EUR per one way

Intercontinental flights: 50 EUR per one way

- If over 15kg/33Ibs and 140cm/55in:

Domestic & European flights: 75 EUR per one way

Intercontinental flights: 150 EUR per one way
