TAP brings customers together at 2nd Edition of Victoria Golf Tournament

2009-11-11

Following the success of the 1st Victoria Golf Tournament last year, on 6 November TAP gathered its customers together for the second year running to enjoy some special moments at the Penha Longa golf course in Sintra, considered one of the top 30 courses in Europe.

Through this initiative, the company continues to promote Portugal as a prime destination for this type of activity and makes use of its vast experience in organising competitions linked to the sport.

“TAP draws on over 30 years’ experience organising one of Portugal’s oldest amateur golf tournaments, an activity that acts as a prime advertising vehicle by bringing hundreds of players to the country every year,” said TAP Director Michael Conolly at the prize-giving ceremony. “This vast experience has allowed TAP to undertake this project, in response to numerous requests from Victoria customers who had been showing an interest in the company and its partners getting together to create a golf tournament.  The tournament’s two editions have been a resounding success, so we can say that this was a move well made,” he concluded.

Creating even more contact with members of the Victoria Programme was one of the objectives successfully achieved at a time when TAP’s loyalty programme has recorded annual growth of around 20% and projections pointing to 1 million Victoria members around the world by the end of the year. In Portugal, the programme already has around 500,000 members, with a further 200,000 in Brazil.

Despite having started very recently, the level of competition at the tournament is already very high, with a number of well-known players participating in this edition of TAP Victoria Golf, including the Portuguese Óscar Garcia, who came 1st in the third category of the World Golfers Championship held two weeks ago in Marbella, Spain.

Around 100 players from the various markets in which TAP operates participated in the tournament, which was contested in pairs – both being members of the Victoria programme – and played in the Fourball Betterball format with ¾ handicap.  The Stablefour NET winners were the team of António Costa/Tiago Costa.
