Cargo transport to Angola increases 10%

2009-12-29

TAP Cargo increased its volume of cargo shipped to Angola by 10 per cent in 2009, thereby confirming the company’s investment in its connections to the Angolan capital. This figure is even more significant in a year when the global economic crisis caused an overall drop in both cargo and passenger traffic.

In addition to an increase from seven to ten weekly TAP flights, growth in cargo traffic to Angola received a significant boost from special operations carried out in 16 freighter aircraft. These wet lease operations took place in DC10 (10 flights), B747 (2 flights) and MD11 (4 flights) aircraft and transported 1,100 tonnes of cargo originating largely from Lisbon and Oporto.

TAP was also the clear winner in the Cargo Transport and Business 2009 Awards, taking away the top three prizes – Best Airline to Europe, the Americas and Africa – awarded by Transportes & Negócios, a leading industry publication.

In addition to the additional revenue guaranteed by TAP with this growth, the Portuguese company sees a renewal of its importance in the economic relationship between the two countries.
