TAP’s in-flight magazine UP received the 2009 Turismo de Portugal Award in Lisbon today, 13 January, in recognition of its contribution to improving the country's image around the world.
The award was presented to UP in the “Services” category, which included 30 nominees, by a jury chaired by André Jordan and also comprising José Carlos Pinto Coelho (Chairman of the Portuguese Tourism Confederation), António Perez Metelo (journalist) and Luís Patrão (Chairman of Turismo de Portugal).
After being singled out by several international publications over its two years in print, this is the first time that UP has received an award in Portugal.
In addition to highlighting this national recognition, the magazine's editor Paula Riberio also felt it very important “that this first award came from the tourism sector, to which we have passionately contributed every month for the last two years."
The TAP in-flight magazine is a monthly publication and the only bilingual magazine about Portugal. Each issue reaches an average of one million readers.
The last five issues of UP have been online since 8 January, at www.upmagazine-tap.com. The content of all the magazines published since its first issue are due to become available by March.
