Shopping

From the traditional shops in the historic centre to the large department stores where they sell everything, as well as markets covering large areas, Malaga offers a wide variety of shopping, either for everyday items of for souvenirs.

The city has been acquiring more and more commercial space, especially large shopping centres which are very popular for their parking facilities. However, traditional business remains, especially in the centre of town where, in addition to department stores like El Corte Inglés and Félix Sáenz, there are designer stores and other sites where you can find clothing, crafts, antiques and souvenirs. In the historic centre there are over a thousand options when it comes to shopping. Calle Larios is the central hub of this commercial area, which extends to the streets of Carretería, Álamos and Alcazabilla. The big advantage here is that you can shop while taking a walk around the streets and while visiting monuments. It is a superb place for anyone who wants to take home crafts or pottery typical of the region. For those looking for articles relating to flamenco, such as shawls, castanets or even music albums, it is a good idea to visit the Flamenko (www.flamenka.com), which is located in Calle Larios, and has its own cultural style. In the area of the promenade, close to the Rosaleda Stadium there are open-air markets on Sundays which offers all kinds of shopping options. Many of the long-established shops still adhere to the traditional siesta and are therefore closed between 14:00 and 17:00.
