As in any big city, Porto Alegre has several locations that are good to go and do some shopping. From neighbourhoods that are more given to trade, to shopping centres, craft fairs and various markets: They are all great places to stop and buy a souvenir of the gaucho city.

The main shopping places are the neighbourhoods of the Centre and the Moinhos de Vento, but the areas devoted to consumption are quite diverse. To more easily find what you are seeking, the Historical Centre or at various shopping centres in the city, such as the Iguatemi Mall, the Praia Bela Mall (lakeside Guaíba), the Windmill Mall or the Bourbon County Mall, are excellent choices, all of them very well packed with shops and easily detectable. In the most traditional commerce, along the streets, we suggest a stroll through the neighbourhood of Bom Fim, the Parque da Redenção (Avenida Osvaldo Aranha), where the market is the traditional point of florists, deli's, ice cream and artisan shops. The Moinhos de Vento district is the richest part of the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, where the best clothing stores, couture ateliers, art galleries, bakeries, bookstores and home furnishing stores can be found. A beautiful place to see and if you can, spend some money! Moreover, in the northern area, the Avenida Assis Brasil is known for selling a little of everything: is a commercial hub of shops that sell clothing, footwear, household appliances and gadgets among many other items.
