Shopping

Chocolate, watches, crafts or high couture. Here, you can find shopping for all tastes and for all pockets. Make peace with your wallet and walk along the best streets in town. The Rue la Croix d'Or and Rue du Marché are the most popular.

Leaving Switzerland without its famous chocolate is an unforgivable sin. Many choose last minute shopping at the airport, but there is nothing better than walking past the many shops in Geneva, where you can find whatever you want in the place where it was made. Watches, shirts, pens, bijouterie, Swiss knives: you can find anything in small shops or large surfaces. And of course, you can also find brands like Zara and H&M or the more expensive and renowned Dior, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. To find what you want, you need to know where to look for it. So, take a note of these tips. The main shopping streets are Rue du Marché and Rue de la Croix d'Or. There are no cars here. Only people, bikes and tramways. Take your time. The street parallel to these ones is Rue du Rhône. Here you can find sophisticated boutiques with high couture items. For street shopping, there is also the famous Plaine de Plainpalais market, open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Do not save your shopping for Sunday, as most shops are closed. The Rue du Mont Blanc is popular among tourists, since there are several specialised shops with traditional Swiss crafts and chocolate. If you're a fan of big surfaces, head to the Manor, a large department store with six floors where you can find anything, right on the centre of Geneva. Or, you can get out of the centre and head to Centre Balexert.
