Special Luggage
Special cabin luggage consists of items that passengers carry in the cabin but are not included in the free hand luggage allowance and therefore require extra seats to be reserved.
Cabin luggage may be bulky or fragile items such as works of art, musical instruments, electronic equipment, etc.
It will be accepted on the following conditions:
- The pressure or weight of the cabin luggage on the seat must not exceed 84 kg (185 lbs).
- It may be necessary to reserve more than one seat for heavier or larger items. The airline will establish the number of seats.

TAP will accept the transport on hold of musical instruments weighing up to 45kg or 32kgs (if travelling to/from/via USA, Hungary, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands) and with dimensions up to 190cm x 75cm x 65cm, provided that TAP has been notified at the time of booking, or at least 24 hours before flight.
When transported as checked luggage, musical items must be properly packaged in a rigid and/or hard shell container specifically designed for shipping such items.
The passenger is responsible for properly prepare a musical instrument for travel.
A service charge is applicable for the transport of these items on hold and may not be included in the passengers free baggage allowance.
