The SIM Association, International Solidarity for Mozambique, is a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGDO), without any political, religious or ideological purposes, and aims to promote philanthropic, educational, cultural, environmental, health and human rights protection throughout the territory of Mozambique, as well as with Mozambican communities in Portugal, the other CPLP countries and other territories.

Access to Education in Mozambique is strongly constrained by the scarcity of national resources. ONGD SIM - International Solidarity for Mozambique decided to focus its efforts on supporting very marginalized communities in the Northern Zone of Bazaruto Island, Inhambane Province. Present in the place for a decade, it promotes regular support actions in the areas of Education, Health and Environment.

Optimizing available resources, they operate at four levels of the education system:
  • Upon detecting that there were learning difficulties for children because the teaching is done in Portuguese, which is not their mother language, they're setting up Tortoise Schools, small pre-primary teaching units; More than 180 children from 2 to 5 years old attend these schools.
  • In primary schools, in addition to the periodic sending of teaching materials, SIM contributes to the maintenance of existing infrastructures and ensures the provision of a daily hot meal to all 267 students.
  • Students who complete primary education are encouraged to attend upper secondary education, which only exists on the continent. To this end, ONGD SIM maintains a student home in Inhassoro, where they have 15 students, and their stay and food are supported through sponsorship programs promoted in Portugal.
  • Finally, students who achieve good school performance attend the Estrela do Mar Industrial School, where more than 20 students have graduated. Those who have opted for secondary education and who have reached good school performance are also supported with scholarships for attending higher education courses in Vilankulo and Beira.
On the International Children's Day in Mozambique, ONGD SIM organizes parties in orphanages, pre-primary schools, elementary schools and football games with street children; it is represented everywhere.
