Miles donation

Solidarity routes to resume in 2021

More than ten million miles donated by TAP Miles&Go customers were channelled into projects by the six entities associated with the TAP Social Responsibility Programme.

Associação Portuguesa de Apoio à Vítima (APAV)

Following the changes and challenges caused by the pandemic in 2020, APAV continued to strengthen its role in prevention, support and protection of victims of crime and violence in 2021.

APAV

Main actions
APAV remained the first line of support for victims of various types of crime, such as domestic violence, gender violence, murder, human trafficking, cyber-crime, theft and robbery, bullying, moral and sexual harassment at work, and others. It also continued with the reorganisation and reinforcement of its services, in order to provide all the help victims in vulnerable situations need, through face-to-face service in the Victim Support Offices, in the specialised sub-networks, online, by Skype and video call, by messages on social media and through the telephone lines, which continue to be expanded with more specialised technicians and volunteers.
Figures in focus
54 TAP tickets were issued in 2021 with the donated miles. These took APAV to 14 destinations in Portugal, Europe and Brazil.
Contribution from the TAP Donate Miles Programme
According to APAV, "The TAP Donate Miles Programme continues to be a great asset in APAV's daily work, enabling national and international travel, participation in seminars and congresses, the exchange of experiences with partner entities and international associations, enhancing our global action and helping improve the scope of the association's objectives and mission, valorising our human capital and continuing to focus on the promotion and defence of the rights of crime victims".

Estímulo

In 2021, as in the previous year, Estímulo saw its movements greatly impacted due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, it managed to carry out an important mission to Cabo Delgado.

Estímulo

Main activities
Through the TAP Donate Miles Programme, 2021 saw the largest Humanitarian Emergency Mission that Estímulo had ever undertaken: the Cabo Delgado Mission. Estímulo volunteers travelled to the Savane resettlement area in Beira, Mozambique, where displaced families from Cabo Delgado are living. Along with other local associations, they distributed the contents of three containers that had been sent earlier, consisting of a wide variety of goods. They were also able to strengthen their support for the Ndjedja Displaced Camp for victims of Cyclone Idai, which they had been assisting since 2019.

Mozambique, Brazil, São Tomé and Príncipe and Lisbon were Estímulo's destinations in 2021, with 21 tickets issued through donated miles.
TAP Donate Miles Programme’s contribution
According to Estímulo, "Generosity has no face! The trust and generosity that TAP Miles&Go customers have shown our organisation means Estímulo has been able to bring a little bit of encouragement to the world when people need it most. Thank you!"

Médicos do Mundo (MdM)

Médicos do Mundo’s main aim is the provision of global health care.

Médicos do Mundo

Main actions
The medics of Médicos do Mundo don't just fight illness - they fight to provide the most vulnerable with a broad concept of health, which includes physical, psychological and social well-being. With a history stretching back more than 37 years, Médicos do Mundo is present in 75 countries, conducting 400 projects. "We fight against all diseases, even injustice" is its motto.

The 12 trips made by Médicos do Mundo during 2021 were to Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde.
TAP Donate Miles Programme’s contribution
Regarding the Programme, MdM stated the following: "One million miles donated by TAP Miles&Go customers, 12 trips taken, 12 missions made possible. In a year that proved to be challenging for all countries, especially the low-income ones with scarce resources, the contribution of Médicos do Mundo in breaking down barriers to health care access focused on one of the organisation’s strategic objectives: to increase the intervention and empowerment of people and institutions by Médicos do Mundo around the world".

Mundo A Sorrir

For Mundo A Sorrir, 2021 meant rebuilding of projects and partnerships that suffered from the pandemic.

Mundo A Sorrir

Main actions

This boost was also made possible by the partnership with TAP, which enabled various international trips to be taken, even during the pandemic. It also allowed links to be established between Mundo A Sorrir and local partners in order to continue with projects, namely medical and dental treatments, screenings and lectures at schools in the countries where it operates and the promotion of oral health care and nutrition.

Figures in focus
The miles collected contributed towards domestic flights between Porto and Lisbon, for internal and external meetings, and for establishing partnerships with other entities. Internationally, they allowed trips to Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, where the organisation implements its projects. This facilitated the establishment of partnership networks in the respective countries and the continuity of the "Smiling Health" and "Social Clinic" projects carried out by Mundo A Sorrir. In total, 22 tickets were issued using donated miles.

TAP Donate Miles Programme’s contribution
Mundo a Sorrir stated the following regarding the Programme: "Thank you TAP and TAP Miles&Go customers. This partnership has made it possible to mitigate the challenges related to international travel, facilitating travel with the new security measures imposed by the pandemic without compromising Mundo A Sorrir's projects, and to establish links between Mundo A Sorrir and local partners, enabling the continuity of treatments".

Solidariedade Internacional a Moçambique (SIM)

SIM conducted more than 75 actions in the areas of education, health, environment and training courses in 2021. It had 42 volunteers who distributed basic necessities in six provinces of Mozambique: Cabo Delgado, Inhambane, Manica, Maputo, Nampula and Sofala.

SIM

Main actions
Three shipping containers were sent with 32 tonnes of products, such as blankets offered by TAP, hygiene products, clothing, footwear, toys, educational and sports materials. These products were distributed to 15,000 war refugees from Cabo Delgado in Nampula Province, Nacala-Porto, as well as to very needy communities, hospitals, health centres and orphanages, encompassing more than 25,000 people.
Figures in focus
Since its action is focused on Mozambique, the 23 TAP tickets issued with donated miles were for the Lisbon - Maputo - Lisbon route.
TAP Donate Miles Programme’s contribution
Regarding the Programme, SIM stated the following: "The Board of Directors of the NGDO (Non-Governmental Organisation for Development) SIM is grateful for all the support it received throughout 2021 from the TAP Air Portugal Corporate Social Responsibility team and its customers, through the TAP Donate Miles Programme, especially in another very difficult year due to the constraints of the pandemic. Thank you."

We Are Changing Together (WACT)

2021 was also a pandemic year that continued to challenge WACT as an organisation and the projects and way of working in the field had to be adapted to the new reality. Given the unpredictability and the need to have not just one plan but several in hand, the stakes were higher.

WACT

Main actions
With resilience, proactivity and cooperation, skills that are in WACT's organisational DNA, the organisation not only maintained its "Spirit Impacto" programme, but also created a new one, "Spirit Experiência". WACT was able to keep its field coordinator in São Tomé and Príncipe, and this person also had the opportunity to undertake other activities. This partnership with TAP meant WACT was able to train 18 volunteers and entrepreneurs, reach 9 working communities and impact more than 100 Santomeans through the Impacto and Experiência programmes.

As it is focused on São Tomé and Príncipe, the 19 tickets issued with donated miles were for the Lisbon - São Tomé - Lisbon route.
TAP Donate Miles Programme’s contribution
According to WACT, "The support of TAP Miles&Go customers meant we could guarantee WACT’s presence in São Tomé. Words are not enough to thank you for all your support. We would like to stress that your support was essential in helping us achieve our objectives in 2021. Without a doubt, participation in this Programme had a positive impact for WACT and for the Santomean population. Once again, thank you!"
