Unicâmbio marks, in 2022, 30 years of existence dedicated to our main driving force: our clients. It is for them that we work every day in search of more and better solutions. Together, we make Unicâmbio the oldest and largest currency exchange office in Portugal.
Our path began on November 14th, 1992, with the opening of our first two branches centered on currency exchange, in the Algarve, on the border with Spain. We answered to the demands of Expo'98, with millions of visitors from all over the world coming to Lisbon. We overcame the creation of the economic and monetary union that brought, in 2002, a single currency (Euro) to 12 European Unioncountries.
We have grown due to our resilience, but, above all, to the permanent search for solutions for the demands placed on us on a daily basis. We aimed high by opening stores in airports: first in Madeira, then on the mainland. We opened up to the world and partnered with the Western Union, the world's number one international money transfer company.
We created innovative solutions, such as the multi-currency prepaid card in partnership with another global leader: EML Payments. Our market insight combined with a strategic vision allowed us to expand our product range, and, in 2015, we signed an agreement with Euronet for the installation of ATMs in our network and in partners.
In 2019, we started a partnership with Worldline, a multinational company specialized in payment solutions with physical and online terminals, exclusively for the national business market. We flew to Angola in 2016, to Morocco in 2019 and to Germany in 2021, where we are present with 33 branches. The product portfolio also includes the purchase of used gold, personal credit mediation through a partnership with BBVA CF, treasury management and Tax-Free refund.
