COVID TEST - Passengers traveling to Portugal

All passengers traveling to Continental Portugal, either as a final destination, in transit or transfer, must complete this online form after checking-in for the flight.
The proof of the filled out form will need to be presented at control points.
 


As per the directive of the Portuguese Government (Despacho n.º 2207-A/2021, of February 26, 2021), entry into Portuguese territory is only authorized for:

  1. Passengers on flights from countries belonging to the European Union, countries associated with the Schengen Area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland). To/from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, France, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland, travel is limited to essential reasons. Nationals of third countries traveling from/to the countries above mentioned are obliged to proof the reason of travel (professional, study, family meeting, health or humanitarian reasons).
  2. Passengers on flights from countries whose epidemiological situation is in accordance with Council Recommendation (EU) 2020/1551, of 22 October 2020.
  3. Passengers on flights from countries that are not members of the European Union or that are not countries associated with the Schengen Area, exclusively for essential travel, thus:
    1. Citizens of the European Union, nationals of States associated with the Schengen Area and members of their families, in accordance to the Directive 2004/38 / EC, of the Parliament and of the Council, and third-country nationals legally resident in a Member State of the European Union;
    2. Third-country nationals traveling for professional, study, family reunion, health or humanitarian reasons.
  4. Passengers on repatriation or humanitarian flights organized in accordance with the law.

COVID TEST WITH A NEGATIVE RESULT MANDATORY IN ORDER TO BOARD

Mandatory PCR tests are only accepted in: portuguese, french, english, spanish and italian.
They can be presented in paper or digital format (excluding results received by SMS on the mobile phone).

Passengers coming from the autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores are exempt from the presentation of a test for boarding in Mainland Portugal (although they must comply with the rules of the country of destination if boarding in the mainland is for the purpose of transferring to another country).

Passengers referred in paragraph a), entering or transiting through  Portugal must present proof of laboratory testing (RT PCR) for the screening of SARS-CoV-2, with a negative result, performed within 72 hours prior to the time of departure, or they will be denied boarding. (including Portuguese citizens, residing in Portugal and their families).

  • Exception: Children who have not completed 24 months of age;
  • In addition to the negative test, passengers must quarantine for 14 days at their residence or other location determined by the Portuguese authorities and pre-register at https://travel.sef.pt (except if the permanence in Portugal does not exceed 48h), if arriving from: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Slovenia, Estonia, France, Hungary, Italy, Malta Poland and Sweden.

 

All passengers referred in paragraphs b), c) and d) entering or transiting thru Portugal must present proof of laboratory testing (RT-PCR) for the screening of SARS-CoV-2, with a negative result, performed within 72 hours prior to the time of departure, or they will be denied boarding. (including Portuguese citizens, residing in Portugal and their families).

  • Exception: Children who have not completed 24 months of age;

Flights from/to Brazil and UK remain suspended as per the same decree.

Passengers with confirmed bookings on affected journeys are advised not to go to the airports and contact directly the TAP Contact Center.

Permitted flights:

  • Cargo flights
  • Humanitarian and repatriation
    • Of national citizens and their family members permanent residents
    • EU citizens, nationals of countries associated to Schengen area and their families and
    • Third countries nationals with legal residence in an EU country

Passengers travelling under these conditions must:

  • National citizens and permanent residents
    • Pre-register here.
    • Provide the negative COVID19 test result, performed within the last 72h before boarding, or the boarding and entry to Portugal may be denied and
    • Complete a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
  • Nationals of the EU, nationals of countries associated to Schengen area and their families and third countries nationals with legal residence in an EU country
    • Provide the negative COVID19 test result, performed within the last 72h before boarding, or the boarding may be denied and
    • Upon arrival at a Portuguese airport, must wait for the connecting flight in a designated location inside the airport.

Passengers entering Portugal originating from Brazil, UK or South Africa, travelling thru other countries, must:

  • Pre-register here;
  • Provide the negative COVID19 test result, performed within the last 72h before boarding (except children under 24 months);
  • Complete a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

Travel restrictions and entry requirements

For some destinations it is mandatory that passengers complete an online form, prior to the flight, proof of which will need to be presented at control points upon arrival, verify below if this is needed in your case. For destinations that do not have an online form, passengers will be requested to fill out a form during the flight.

It is the passenger’s responsibility to comply with all government policies and entry requirements, for example the need to fill out forms and/or Covid-19 testing. Failure to do so may result in denied boarding for the flight or entry to the destination.

Symptomatic passengers identified at the airport by public health authorities may be refused to continue their journey.

Mandatory use of a face mask

Use of a face mask is mandatory on board all TAP flights. Therefore, all our passengers, aged over 6, must be equipped with one and guarantee that it is used during the entire duration of the journey.

The use of a face mask will only be exempted for passengers who are proven to have health problems that cannot use it. In these cases, prior to the flight and in order to travel, the passenger must have a medical authorization (MEDIF). Otherwise, boarding will be denied.

We also advise our passengers to inform themselves on specific regulations that may exist at their points of origin and destination, for example that fact that it is already compulsory at many airports to wear a face mask.

Restrictions for the transport of baggage on flights to and/or from Abidjan, Accra, Bissau, Dakar, Praia, Sao Vicente and Sao Tome.

Due to space limitations on our aircrafts, during certain times of the year, purchase of extra baggage transportation is restricted for the following destinations and periods:
  • Travelling to Abidjan, Accra, Bissau*, Dakar, Praia, Sao Vicente and Sao Tome:
    • Summer – from 10 June 2021 to 12 September 2021*
    • Christmas – from 11 December 2021* to 9 January 2022
    • Easter - from 19 March, 2021 to 4 April, 2021 (does not apply for flights to Sao Tome and Bissau)
  • Departing from Abidjan and Accra:
    • Easter – from 5 April 2021 to 12 April 2021
    • Summer – from 10 June 2021 to 12 September 2021
    • New Year’s – from 26 December 2021 to 9 January 2022
*Note: The final destination Bissau will be extended to the summer period with suspension until September 30th 2021.
Final Destination Bissau will be anticipated to the Christmas period with suspension from November 13th 2021.


The trips whose destination is Abidjan, Accra, Bissau, Dakar, Praia, São Tomé and São Vicente and whose origin is Abidjan and Accra will not allow excess baggage (weight and / or dimensions) on the allowance associated with the fare, the purchase of extra baggage, nor the transportation of animals, sports equipment or musical instruments dispatched to the hold. The number of pieces accepted will be in accordance to what is indicated on the ticket and, for each piece, the sum of the three dimensions (height + length + width) cannot exceed 158cm, with a maximum weight of 23kg, in Economy and 32kg, in Executive class.

This restriction is applied to all tickets, regardless of the product that is acquired or the Passenger’s Frequent Flyer status, with the exception of tap|discount tickets, where it is possible to add the transport of one piece of baggage.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

The total net quantity of all such articles carried by each passenger must not exceed 2 kg or 2 L and the net quantity of each single article must not exceed 0.5 kg or 0.5 L. 

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is acceptable as carry-on or checked baggage. However, it should be noted that where passengers wish to have the hand sanitizer in their carry-on baggage that the limit of 100 mL or equivalent per item for liquids and gels in accordance with the aviation security provisions applies (if no local exemption has been defined by the Competent Authorities).


Please bear in mind that such articles shall not be used on any aircraft equipment or surfaces, as they have not been approved by the Aircraft Manufacturer.
