Traveling to Madeira and Porto Santo

When planning your trip to Madeira and Porto Santo, it is important to know the regulations in force in this Region, within the scope of the prevention and containment of COVID-19.
  
1 - It is mandatory to complete the epidemiological survey. For your convenience, you can fill it out here in the 12 to 48 hours prior to departure.
  
Month of June: 
  • All passengers on flights from abroad who carry a negative test for COVID-19 disease, performed within 72 hours prior to disembarkation, in laboratories certified by national or international authorities, upon disembarkation, proceed to their destination, upon presentation of the corresponding report which can also be submitted, in advance, together with the inquiry referred to in point 1.
  • All passengers on flights from abroad who do not have a negative test for COVID-19 disease, carried out in the 72 hours prior to disembarkation, in laboratories certified by national or international authorities, are required to comply with quarantine at a hotel establishment designated for this purpose, with the monitoring of the Health Authorities (does not apply to patients in treatment, who can submit documents in advance, together with the survey referred to in point 1).

As of July 1: 

  • All passengers on flights from abroad who carry a negative test for COVID-19 disease, performed within 72 hours prior to disembarkation, in laboratories certified by national or international authorities, upon disembarkation, proceed to their destination, upon presentation of the corresponding report which can also be submitted, in advance, together with the inquiry referred to in point 1.
  • Passengers disembarking at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira who have not tested for COVID-19, will do so at the airport upon arrival. After performing the test, the passenger will proceed to their destination. The passenger will be informed of the result within the following 12 hours.

As additional preventive measures for COVID-19 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the following are recommended:

  • Use of a mask, especially in closed spaces and public transport (mandatory);
  • Social distance (2 meters between people and avoid crowds);
  • Frequent hand hygiene;
  • Respiratory etiquette.

Traveling to the Azores - Procedures to be followed

All passengers disembarking at the airports of Ponta Delgada, on the island of S. Miguel, or Lajes, on the island of Terceira, coming from airports located in areas considered by the World Health Organization to be areas of active community transmission or with active transmission chains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, are required to fulfill, alternatively, one of the following procedures:
  1. Submit proof, in paper form, of a document issued by an accredited laboratory for the testing of COVID-19, attesting to the SARS-CoV-2 screening test, within 72 hours prior to the departure the airport of origin. The document must state the passenger's identification, the laboratory where it was performed, the date of the test, the signature of the person responsible for carrying out the test, and the NEGATIVE result. In this case, and if the stay is extended for seven or more days, the passenger must, on the 5th and 13th day, counting from the date of the SARS-CoV-2 screening test, if the stay is for the mentioned duration or more, contact the health authority of the municipality where you reside or are staying, with the objective of conducting a new SARS-CoV-2 screening test, done by the local health authority, the result of which you will be notified within 24 hours; or
  2. Complete a screening test for SARS-CoV-2, done by the local health authority, with the collection of biological samples upon arrival, and must remain, in prophylactic isolation, in a hotel room indicated for this purpose until the result of said test NEGATIVE, in which the amount of time between the collection of the samples and the NEGATIVE test result must not exceed 48 hours. In this case, and if the stay is extended for seven or more days, the passenger must, on the 5th and 13th day, counting from the date of the SARS-CoV-2 screening test, if the stay is for the mentioned duration or more, contact the health authority of the municipality where you reside or are staying, with the objective of conducting a new SARS-CoV-2 screening test, done by the local health authority, the result of which you will be notified within 24 hours; or
  3. Carry out voluntary quarantine for a consecutive period of fourteen days in a hotel indicated for this purpose, prior to the end of the mentioned period, biological samples will be collected and a SARS-CoV-2 screening test to be done by the local health authority; or
  4. Return to the destination of origin or travel to any destination outside the Region, in which case until the time of the flight mandatory prophylactic isolation in a hotel indicated for the purpose must be fulfilled;

In cases where the SARS-CoV-2 virus test result is POSITIVE, the local health authority, within the scope of its powers, will determine the procedures to be followed.

In cases where mandatory quarantine is decreed by the health authority, it must, within 24 hours, be submitted to judicial validation with the competent court.

In the period pending the results of the SARS-CoV-2 screening test, as well as in cases of voluntary quarantine or mandatory quarantine, safeguarding compliance with the guidelines determined by the health authority for the prevention of infection, those who are subjected to them must be able to enjoy the same services that are made available to a guest under normal circumstances, except for those that may make the guidelines previously determined unfeasible or weakened.

Procedures for passengers coming from outside of the Region who wish to move to another island, must proceed as indicated: 

  1. Passengers must communicate this intention, on arrival, to the health authority, by completing a declaration for this purpose;
  2. Passengers who perform a SARS-CoV-2 screening test upon arrival in the Region, if they have another island as their final destination, can move to this island, after receiving the NEGATIVE result; 
  3. Passengers who present a previous NEGATIVE SARS-CoV-2 screening test, if they have another island as their final destination, can move to this island;
  4. Passengers referred to in the previous paragraphs, when arriving at the final destination island, must comply with the procedures mentioned in above paragraphs a) and b), in the regards to contact with the municipal health authority, on the 5th and 13th day, for conducting a SARS-CoV-2 screening test.

All passengers must comply with the rules for the use of a mask, physical distance and respiratory etiquette defined by the regional health authority.


In cases where the SARS-CoV-2 virus test result is POSITIVE, the local health authority, within the scope of its powers, will determine the procedures to be followed.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

The total net quantity of all such articles carried by each passenger must not exceed 2 kg or 2 L and the net quantity of each single article must not exceed 0.5 kg or 0.5 L. 

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is acceptable as carry-on or checked baggage. However, it should be noted that where passengers wish to have the hand sanitizer in their carry-on baggage that the limit of 100 mL or equivalent per item for liquids and gels in accordance with the aviation security provisions applies.

Security restriction (100mL) does not apply to passengers transporting the hand sanitizer on flights departing from Portugal. For flights departing other countries, these restrictions may vary upon each National Authority assessment.

Restrictions for the transport of baggage on flights to and/or from Abidjan, Accra, Bissau, Dakar, Lomé, Praia, Sao Vicente and Sao Tome.

Due to space limitations on our aircrafts, during certain times of the year, purchase of extra baggage transportation is restricted for the following destinations and periods:
  • Travelling to Abidjan, Accra, Bissau, Dakar, Lomé, Praia, Sao Vicente and Sao Tome:
    • Easter – from 28 March to 12 April 2020
    • Summer – 13 June to 30 August 2020
    • Christmas – from 11 December 2020 to 10 January 2021
  • Departing from Abidjan, Accra and Lomé:
    • Easter – 13 April to 20 April 2020
    • Summer – 13 June to 13 September 2020
    • New Year’s – 26 December 2020 to 10 January 21
The trips whose destination is Abidjan, Accra, Bissau, Dakar, Lome, Praia, São Tomé and São Vicente and whose origin is Abidjan, Accra and Lome will not allow excess baggage (weight and / or dimensions) on the allowance associated with the fare, the purchase of extra baggage, nor the transportation of animals, sports equipment or musical instruments dispatched to the hold. The number of pieces accepted will be in accordance to what is indicated on the ticket and, for each piece, the sum of the three dimensions (height + length + width) cannot exceed 158cm, with a maximum weight of 23kg, in Economy and 32kg, in Executive class.

This restriction is applied to all tickets, regardless of the product that is acquired or the Passenger’s Frequent Flyer status, with the exception of tap|discount tickets, where it is possible to add the transport of one piece of baggage.
