With a recent history strongly influenced by the revolution of Hugo Chávez, the 29 million venezuelans concentrate mostly on urban areas. But there are other places, unkown perhaps, that make this a special country.

Stunning views
Caracas, the capital, lies in the north by the coast. And that’s where you’ll find paradises like Margarita Island and Los Roques archipelago. Mérida, in the Andes, is a university city filled with charm; and Park Canaima keeps the world’s highest waterfalls, the Ángel Falls.

True colours
Venezuelan culture is diversified — spanish dominates but there are many indigenous dialects. The Sofia Ímber Contemporary Museum, in Caracas, shows the greatest works of art of the country. And the colourful gastronomy is one of the best ways to Venezuela’s soul — just try the pabellon and the arepa and you’ll see!
